SICK DAYS/PERSONAL DAYS

Q. When can personal days be used as sick days?
A. When sick days are exhausted. Article XXIX. A  (1), p.80.

Q. If a probationary or tenured teacher is ill and unable to work the first week of school, must he or she report to school in order to be credited with sick leave on the payroll?
A. No. Article XXVIII. C., p.79.

Q. If a teacher is hurt at school, what should the teacher do?
A. Have the teacher contact BTF.
File an accident report (C-2 Form)
See a doctor and tell the doctor you were hurt on the job.

Q. Does the teacher lose sick time for the days he/she is absent?
A. No, when covered by Worker’s Compensation. Article XXXIV. (2) C., p.88. If assaulted, file a BTF incident report.

Q. When must a teacher state a reason for taking a personal day?
How much notice must be given?
A. Only a day before or after a holiday. Notice of 48 hours, whenever possible. Article XXIX. A, p.80. You do not have to and should not share your personal business for any other personal day request.
